Local Government and Special Districts Law
LLW has represented the Florida Association of Special Districts on special district and local government matters for over twenty years. Our attorneys participate actively in the adoption of every significant special district statute by the Florida Legislature. The LLW legislative team is actively involved in any proposed change to Chapters 189, 190, 191, and 298 of the Florida Statutes and any legislation that may have a direct or indirect impact on local government operations. LLW attorneys have successfully worked to codify the charters of over thirty special districts as required by Chapter 189 and Chapter 191 of the Florida Statutes.
LLW also represents more than fifty governmental entities throughout the state, including counties, cities and special districts operating major airports, deepwater ports and regional water management systems. We represent clients before the Legislature on a variety of issues, including:
• Bond and Financing Issues
• Budgetary Issues and Appropriations
• Community Redevelopment
• General Counsel Services
• Levy of Ad Valorem Taxes and Non-Ad Valorem Assessments
• Public Finance
• Public Records and Sunshine Law
• Retirement Issues
• School District
Our attorneys frequently represent local governments in land use and environmental matters, including acting as special counsel in court proceedings on behalf of local governments.
