Areas of Practice
- Advises public employers and pension boards on federal and state laws pertaining to governmental retirement programs, and works closely with local governments and pension actuaries in restructuring retirement benefit programs and preparing pension plan documents and amendments.
- Assisted a number of cities and special districts in joining the Florida Retirement System.
- Represents local governments and special districts in litigation and general governmental matters such as land use and public records issues.
- Represents public and private employers in labor and employment law matters.
- Represents clients in disciplinary and licensing matters before numerous state regulatory agencies, including the Department of Business and Professional Regulation, the Board of Medicine and the Board of Nursing.
- Represents statewide professional organizations in state agency rulemaking and policy matters.
Prior Professional Experience
- Prior to and while attending law school, worked as a full-time Deputy Sheriff for the Broward County Sheriff's Office, accumulating ten years of law enforcement experience and receiving numerous commendations and awards by retirement in January 2001.
- During law school, worked as a summer intern for the Broward County Attorney's Office, Environmental and Land Use Section. Researched issues for and attended administrative hearings for environmental-related county ordinance violations, and assisted with negotiations for wetlands mitigation.
