Isabelle C. Lopez Elected as Vice-Chair of the Jacksonville Human Rights Commission

Isabelle C. Lopez has been elected to serve as Vice-Chair of the Jacksonville Human Rights Commission. The Commission voted yesterday at their monthly meeting. Ms. Lopez will serve for the 2010 term. Today marks her one-year anniversary with the Commission. “I am excited to be in a leadership role in an organization that makes a positive difference in our community.” said Isabelle Lopez. “Being a member of the Commission for the past year, I have seen firsthand what the Commission can do to improve the greater Jacksonville community.” The Jacksonville Human Rights Commission serves as a clearing house, coordinator, and facilitator on human rights issues, and to partner with other public and private agencies in the pursuit of a fairer, more just Jacksonville community. The Commission has fostered mutual understanding and respect for all the citizens making up Jacksonville’s diverse population. This has promoted individual and small group dialogue, research on racial attitudes, and sponsorship of public forums to encourage greater racial, religious, and gender inclusiveness. She is a Board Certified in City, County and Local Government Law, is a member of the Statewide Board Certification Committee, and is a Certified County and Circuit Mediator. Ms. Lopez practices in the areas of zoning, comprehensive planning, land development code regulations, concurrency, development and proportionate share agreements, impact fees, Developments of Regional Impact, platting, public hearings, Community Redevelopment Agencies, Municipal Service Benefit Units, Value Adjustment Boards, annexation, interlocal agreements, local ordinances, contract negotiations, solid waste facilities and services. She is a member of the Rotary Club of St. Augustine and is a member and former president of the St. Johns County Bar Association.
