What is a Geographic Information System (GIS)?
Video Transcript
Geographic information systems or GIS, are similar to what you see on your phone, or your car, navigating around, going from place to place. However, a full GIS system is able to incorporate all sorts of other data, that is often useful in solving the issues that you might encounter. That might be historical aerials, it might be permit data, it might a water flow through an area. When you can utilize that data, you can often illustrate an issue and get to an answer far quicker than you can, writing a memo or just having a discussion with someone. It's proven to be a extraordinarily powerful tool, not just for scientists and planners, but for attorneys as well.
