LLW Part of Team That Made the Fort Lauderdale Airport's New Runway Expansion Project Possible

On January 23rd, officials broke ground on Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport’s new runway expansion project. The $791 million project, scheduled to open in September 2014, will handle 450,000 takeoffs and landings every year. The Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport is the 20th largest and one of the fastest growing airports in the country and this project will help accommodate current growth and create additional capacity for future growth.

Lewis, Longman & Walker attorneys Robert Diffenderfer, Michelle Diffenderfer, Ken Spillias and Keri-Ann Baker were part of the team that assisted in the litigation, environmental and land use permitting and noise mitigation program development that made this project possible.

“The South Runway Expansion will be one of the most significant construction projects in the state over the next several years,” says LLW Shareholder Robert Diffenderfer. “We are excited to be part of a nationally significant aviation infrastructure project that will generate 11,000 jobs and bring in more than $1 million dollars per day to the local economy.”

With over 25 years of experience assisting Florida’s airports, deep-water ports, and transportation infrastructure development agencies, Lewis, Longman & Walker recognizes that modern airports exist largely within a built environment and are under pressure to address air and traffic congestion under the threat of increased litigation and strained relationships between federal, state and local governments and the surrounding communities.
